Triplets are three notes that are notated with a line connecting them with '3' written above them. This creates a three note pattern that fits in the space of a beat.

Eighth note triplets are just groups of three notes that fit in the space of one quarter note (the basic pulse of 4/4 music). To count these triplets, you simply say, “One-Trip-Let, Two-Trip-Let, Three-Trip-Let, Four-Trip-Let.”

Occasionally you will see extra instructions over the repeat dots, for example to play the section "3x" (three times). It is very common for longer repeated sections of music to be repeated exactly until the last few measures. When this happens, the repeat dots will be put in an ending.

In music notation, triplets are always marked with the number 3 over or under the triplet notes. Sometimes triplets have a slur mark (an arc-shaped line), or they may have a bracket. Other times the 3 notes are just beamed together with the number 3 written near the beam.

To show a triplet, we write the notes as three quavers (8ths) beamed (joined) together, and we also write “3” on the beamed side of the notes.

A tie is a curved line between two notes of the same pitch, indicating that they are to be played as one combined note (see external links below). Ties are normally created between adjacent notes in the same voice, but MuseScore also supports ties between non-adjacent notes and between notes in different voices.

To loop from the Play Panel:

Select the note from which you want playback to start and click on the "Set loop in position" button. The "Loop Playback" button becomes active.

How do you write triplets in music? ›

Triplets, and all tuplets, are notated with brackets directly above or below the notes. The brackets include a number indicating the type of tuplet. A triplet has the number 3 in its bracket.

Each member of a triplet group has an equivalent beat time value equal to . 66 of it's original value. 1.33 + 1.33 + 1.33 = 4 beats (rounded to the nearest whole number). The first two beats of measure two contains one triplet group of three quarter notes.

Bonus: Triplets exist in triple meters like 6/8 all the time.

To apply a two- or four-measure repeat symbol, select the first blank measure following the section you want repeated, then click on the applicable measure repeat icon in the Repeats & Jumps palette. Alternatively, drag the repeat icon from the palette onto the same blank measure instead.

Right-click on the last measure before the end repeat barline and select Measure properties. Adjust "Play count" ("Repeat count" prior to version 2.1) as required.

To make mid-measure repeats that look and playback properly, you first need to split the measure. Select the first note after the repeat and choose the menu Tools->Measure->Split measure before selected note. You can then insert a repeat barline where the measure is split.
